I started out this spring with 5 Cayuga hens, 2 Pekin hens, and 2 Cayuga drakes. One of my Cayuga girls went broody and hatched 11. Some are clearly from Pekin eggs. (Each uniquely beautiful, btw!) We found a very green "fairy egg," and it got me to wondering. Will the crosses lay eggs with the "sooty" bloom of the Cayuga?

That I don't know but I will tag along to see what others say. I have a Cayuga Duck and only Runner drakes but we're not hatching this year.

This spring I got 12 eggs from the neighbor to hatch out...a huge hodge podge of breeds and egg colors. My darkest BLUE egg, an obvious cayuga, hatched into a black duckling that turned BROWN! A VERY white egg I had hatched a black duckling and she remains black to this day. Curious if there is a rhyme or reason to any of this.

They're mixed breeds. Egg color and duckling color likely won't have much relation without knowing who each mom and dad is
