News- Clucking Chickens in Hollywood Yard Prompt Lawsuit

Playing the race card just makes you look silly and petty. The fact is you are not supposed to have chickens where you are,,,you got caught, move them elsewhere. My 21 birds make alot of clucking and egg songs through out the day. No denying it. I can see that your neighbors didn't expect that someone would move in next to them with livestock. You are just making it more difficult for other people to have chickens with this story .

The other people with the 100 chickens total, probably keep their heads down and stay low key

Did you read the whole post? I know it is long but you should before replying.

They moved in after us and the chickens, before they moved in we told them about the chickens, and they spent a long time with them and decided to buy the house anyway, she loved the chickens and was sharing a compost heap with us and then she started to have marriage issues ( I can hear a lot coming from my yard) and is taking it out on us.

I have proof that it is about race and I am not "playing the race card" the judge admitted that it was all about race, but validly said that simply because she is racist does not mean there is not a problem.

Please read my posts.

ETA: they do not keep there "heads low", one neighbor was cited for having feces running into the street form his 40, and they just had him clean it up and have not bothered him, another had a rooster that i can hear every morning, he has never been cited, another was cited for a loud rooster and wa told to just get rid of the rooster but the hens are fine, the list goes on and on, but I have a day to have.

Thank you so much!

Did you see the survey results on the page? its up to 62% for letting them keep the chickens!

Yes I did!! Thank you all who are voting!

H.C., thanks for the clarifications you posted about your situation, and I truly hope you get to keep your backyard flock and make peace with your neighbors.

That said, I stand by my observation that your birds should not have been allowed to fly out of your yard at any time, as their presence in a neighbor's yard may have been the impetus for the start of the feud, regardless of how amenable they were originally to the idea of your having chickens.

When faced with the actuality of pet chickens by firsthand encounters, many non-chicken people just can't deal well with the idea when they've never had any experience with them. Yes, it's stupid but it's our responsibility as chicken keepers to keep the impact of our pets within our own boundaries.

Good luck!

Thanks for the support!

I agree, that is why I clip their wings, but she (my neighbor) had dug a hole under the fence and lured the chicken with carrots on to her side of the fence and then took a picture and sent it to the judge as "evidence" I have a security camera on that side of the property.

looks like you have ducks too?
just curious, but sounds like if the neighbor is close, their might be a noise issue, i'm in the same situation ,houses are very close to each other, i had only 2 hens but the egg song was LOUD, I decided to be a good neighbor and give my hens to a nearby farm and try bantums ,hopefully they will be a little quieter?
but good luck,

Did read the post and saw nothing about your neighbor buying after you were there etc. Unfortunately for you it will probably go in her favor eventually. Friendly in the beginning or not it will not stop her from complaining to someone higher up and them enforcing it. I'd have bought or rented in an Ag area where I could do whatever I wanted to . But it sounds like more then Race because you were friendly in the beginning. Example: I'd like to own an Ostrich but can't due to where I live. Doesn't mean I'd just go get one and say too bad for my neighbors I've got support from other Ostrich owners who say i should have it and my kids enjoy taking care of it. Where does it end,,chickens, pigs, goats,. I can understand buying in a deed restricted community so my neighbors don't have livestock, travel trailers in the driveway, old washing machines in the front yard etc. I get it . Maybe you should move or get rid of the flock to down or up the road where you can have them on another property . Do you plan on living next to this person forever and being miserable and making them unhappy too?I wish you good luck in your fight but if they are not willing to change your laws as far as Poultry ownership you are pushing S@#$T uphill with a pointed stick my friend.
