Maryland Poultry Swap & Farmer's Market **UPDATED w/ PICS pg.43**

I'm ready to spend some time with my chicken buddies! If I bring anything at all home that is alive (snicker)

I only have you all to blame when DH says and now where are you going to put those!!!!!

Is there some sort of prayer for self control you can do before a poultry swap? I found myself looking up rabbit breeds this morning... Need I remind everyone that my coop-to-be will be on display at the show so I don't even have a permanent home until this week? Plenty of brooder/cage/small coop room in the meantime of course...just in case.

I hope you get a great turnout, with all the work you have put in! I saw the weather was supposed to be perfect, so that won't be keeping people away! Can't wait til Saturday morning! I plan on being there as close to 8am as possible. Just have to get all the kids moving, very early lol.

Rabbits to me are a good companion to poultry within any system. Rabbits give meat and pelts, a "cold" manure to fertilize the garden beds and feed for the worm bins. Worms process the manure, giving me even better fertilizer for the garden beds and eventually a good protein source for the chickens. I've not met a chicken yet who didn't love me forever when I or the kids come with a red wriggler or two.

It's odd when you mention breeders in the area, as I actually have more folks travel from far away than locals with interest. A few years ago, I was just about the only breeder of Americans in the eastern part of the country, but I've managed to spread out the breed a bit since then so the numbers are slowly building up. I think my rabbits have new homes in maybe 12 or 13 states now spanning just about the entire country. Someone made a trip up from Georgia last month which added GA and SC, so I think that now puts them from NY to GA to CA to OR to WA. LOL, I even had someone contact me from Alaska a few weeks ago asking about shipping to them.

I've tried to make it to each and every swap at TSC, but something has always come up, either a massive heat wave hits, or one time it was a honey bee delivery, another was piglets being born, and the most recent one, I had a first time heifer in labor that I didn't dare leave. Hopefully, no impending crises will hit and I'll see you there.

tom

Well I really hope you make this one!! Fingers are crossed. The area covered by your progeny is quite impressive!!! If I may ask where in the panhandle are you located?

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept that I will buy more chickens than I need, the courage to tell my husband and the wisdom to figure out where to put them all!

It's not a self-control prayer but it's much more realistic don't ya think??

It has grown a bit bigger, I think, than anticipated so we will have an officer hanging out for part of the day. He's a friend of one of the vendors and has offered his help in any way
big_smile.png
..parking cars, etc. Im thinking we'll be pretty balanced though with vendors and customers as I've been getting equal amounts of calls and emails. We keep getting a few more vendors each day. Recently, I have been on the run and and can't remember what the most recent said they were bringing but, here's THE updated LIST... enjoy
