I just went into the coup and saw that 6 of my 10 Japanese bantam eggs have hatched and the others are cracked looking like they will hatch soon. This is the first hatch from my girls. Actually they have hatched other breeds eggs several times before but never there own breeds eggs. My questions are:
All the chicks legs are so so so short I actually only see feet. They don't seem to be able to run around like other breeds chicks do. They hobble about. They can get around but not quickly. Should I take them away from mom or will they be fine? I just worry they wont be able to get food and water properly.
Do Japanese Bantam chicks ever die because there legs are to short?
For some funny reason when ever my JB hens go broody they have to share a nest. Once one goes broody the other one will go broody right away and they both sit on the same nest together. It's really funny but actually good because the nesting box is about a meter about the ground and all the chicks that hatched have jumped out of the nesting box and are on the ground. One mom stays on the nest and the other takes care of the chicks on the ground. Great team hehe. Another plus is I can add 3 or 4 more egg layers eggs into the nesting box when they both go broody.
I'll attach some photo shortly showing the new chicks.
