I had a very wet and rumpled looking chicken waiting outside the coop this morning.

She had some loose hanging feathers but no injuries. She is acting like one of my Polish pullets did when she started laying. She would sneak off to hide. Hopefully this is NOT a repeated event, I don't think my nerves could handle that.

I had a weird morning...

Usually I go out at 9 or so to open the door to let the girls out, and usually they are all, except the roosters, waiting in the underrun. This morning, only 2 were waiting. I opened that door, then the coop door and they all looked at me with confusion... HEY, it's not my fault they all decided to sleep in. It was the same look I'd get from my neice when she lived here... "Have to get up already?"

I am hoping for sun today. I don't think they can handle the constant twilight. Messing with their timers...

Just wanted to take a minute to introduce myself to all the great people of the Michigan thread!

I am married to a great man who was not in any capacity an animal person, but has tolerated my love of all things that bark and crow fabulously. Lucky for me he is very handy, and has built me a lovely coop. Mother to two little rascals, one who likes to mother all the chickens, and the other who just likes to chase them around the yard, (hey, it's good exercise right?) I grew up in dutch costumes and wooden shoes, if that gives you any idea of where I'm from.

My fur-kids include our 2 dogs, one Akita and one bullmastiff-mix (the bigger they are the better to cuddle with I say,) as well as two Nigerian Dwarf Goats... a.k.a. my lawn mowers.

My feather-kids include 2 Barred rocks, 3 EE's, 1 Isa Brown, 1 Silver laced Wyandotte, 1 Gold Laced Wyandotte, and 7 Black Copper Marans. This is my first flock of chickens, and I am just in love.

I also recently started incubating and can safely say now that I think I'm past the point of no return.

Currently have 7 sizzle eggs set and hoping for a great hatch!

I'm so happy to have found BYC and this community of great people who have helped me along on my first adventure with chickens, it's also nice to talk to people who "get it."

With that said... how is everyone enjoying this LOVELY weather we are having?

I agree. I'm tired of it being dreary and me weary. I went to bed at 9:30p last night. What's with that? I never usually go until near midnight.

Hello, misslady.

Oh...and I just incubated my first eggs which hatched a couple of weeks ago. I am also at the point of no return. I timed it so that they hatched when my friends (and their kids) were visiting. What an exciting weekend of kids and chicks. LOL!

Welcome to the Michigan thread. There are such nice and informative people here.

Welcome misslady, glad you found the Michigan thread. There are a lot of wonderful people on here that are always willing to help. I should warn you though, you need to check the thread often, skip a day and you will probably be two to three pages behind.
