They are on dirt. The framing of the coop and run is pressure treated wood and it is placed on the ground. The substrate in the run is concrete sand with several inches of Premium Chicken Sand on top.

I don't use a run up to the hatch. They have to fly up so their wings stay strong.

This spring they are moving to a tougher warmer in winter cooler in summer coop with a fenced yard with spire roof. This roof in the yard they are in now I have to knock snow off every storm. Slowly figuring out how to make things easier
