a clutch of purebred delaware chicks we hatched this spring and sold off; these guys are distributed here on long island to establish this rare breed locally;

this is our coop after the weekly overhaul; this is the way your coop should be at all times!we use only fresh top-cut-first cut feed hay instead of the brown dried up dusty or even wet and moldy stuff like on display at halloween!! the top cut gives off a great deodorizing aroma and absorbs the ammonia and methane fumes in the air that build up over a week between major cleanings and the nest hay is refreshed daily; layers of old newspaper under this thick layer of hay makes clean up a snap; we double layer it in this fasion simply rolling up the soiled bedding to reveal another fresh layer underneath saving time and effort; and NEVER scraping concrete like feces off anything anywhere at all; if you catch yourself finding the need for a scraper then youve failed to maintain your coop in a sanitary fashion; this coop was a 40year old shed ready to go back to nature when we obtained free scrap wood off craigslist locally and made it habitable for a breeding flock; it barely cost a hundred bucks to do; horse farms or where livestock is fed is a great place to get bales of top-cut feed hay;look around its well worth it in the long run!!

notice who the big boy roo was looking at me here? thats the oldest hen and that was one first times he looked at me like that;weeks later he started lunging at us;now we can barely enter the enclosure without getting attacked; hes large and in charge like any good stud animal should be!lol!

our oldest hen last year; the was the sole survivor of the first clucth we hatched; she is now half a year older than the rest of the flock and she has been breeding heavily and has produced lots of fertile eggs that are now flocks all across the country;she will be unproductive soon and a new home will be sought for her at the end of this season;
