Pecan the Second, the new addition to our family, was rescued from certain death, in the middle of heavy traffic by a very brave young man. I acquired him about a week ago and he has already assumed the Alpha position in our household of three cats. Needless to say their " whiskers" are out of joint! I am almost positive that he was a pet rooster in our area and that he has always been a flight risk, as I have read on the synopsis about Icelandic or Viking hens on Backyard Chickens. (Well I think he is)He arrived with his wings clipped but remains a good flyer. We live in a complex of six town houses and cannot allow Pecan to crow at full throttle, therefore, I have tried a few ways of minimizing the noise in the morning by putting him in my bed to sleep a little longer and allow everybody else to enjoy a few hours more. He is perfectly happy to comply and just closes his eyes and sleeps in my arms. This is why I say he is a tame "bird". He now has the run of the house, to my husband's annoyance at times, but even he has softened towards Pecan who jumps onto the table where he is working and just chills or starts scratching at any papers that are lying around even if they are important.He is quite a character ! He is very bright and has an excellent memory.
