How is this working out for you?
I need to make something like this for when I need to leave feed for a couple of days at a time and not worry about them running out.

Great! Aart's feeder is genious. If we make a second, i would change the large blue holes a bit, but other than that it is perfect. We have 8 large chickens and 3 six week olds eating out of it, and tomorrow we are going to fill and see how long it lasts, but they are at 3 cups a day (plastic solo cups, i think 12 oz), so theoretically, it could last about two weeks. The zero mess was our reasoning for building it, but if we only have to fill once a week then that's a definite perk.

Yes!
I cut right where the material reduces in diameter so it slides back over like a lid. Keeps water out of the top, but windy rain can still get into the bottom.
