Keeping your saw plate firmly placed and flat to the lumber is very important. I did a couple like this then, wisely, clamped my lumber to table to stand at. If you wobble, you will cut to deep. Once you cut few from the end, if you can keep the blade absolutely flat to your lumber, you can sweep it back and forth and further smooth jointing area.
Be firmly braced, and wear glasses always. The method produces a LOT of sawdust and chips.
Start by cutting a number of "kerfs" with your saw. The end result you are aiming for is on the right. Set your saw depth to half the thickness of the lumber.
