It began with two goose eggs.
Duck and goose pond, constructed to allow run-off and filtering of surface feathers, built with black tarp, rocks and the pieces of road paving torn up and discarded off the side of the road!
What happens when a duck steals its neighbour's eggs! We took away a couple of the 21 eggs that finally ended up in the nest and marked the others!
Now on we don't know how many eggs -- we discovered that both goose and one of the female Muscovy ducks were "stealing" eggs laid next to them and adding them to their nests -- we're waiting for D-day to come with its load of surprises. We've never seen the jar actually mount his companions, but who knows? In any case, we thought that geese laid and reproduced in spring. Ours are teaching us differently.

We discovered that one of the two female geese had begun to build a nest carefully "hidden" (she thought) behind the big bale of straw.
This shelter, left with a narrow space behind the large bails of straw and hay (covered here to protect them from rain and snow during the on-coming winter), has become a nesting place for one of the female Chinese geese.
Located next to the horse stall under the open barn, after three days of being "couped up" so they could get used to their new home, like the chickens in their nearby chicken house, the ducks and chickens now have freedom to roam 2 1/2 acres of field from dawn to dusk.
