Glued, screwed, and clamped. Pre-drill your holes, and don't over do it. I used Gorilla Glue, as it super strong, but any exterior glue is good. Make sure you're squared up before hand.

Be firmly braced, and wear glasses always. The method produces a LOT of sawdust and chips.
