MY finished 8x8ft chicken coop! Was built on rollers in the machine shop and rolled outside to put the roof on and finish off the whole inside. I took many ideas from all I have read on this site! I had a lot of the materials around the farm(steel roofing, boards and bat, solid door, storm door, insulation, luan board, pressed board, windows, cement & 2x4s,). Now my children realize why I treasure all the stuff I save from other projects. Note the picket fence I made from the leftover bat! I must tell you my 19 year Grandson built most of this coop---without him it would have never been possible! Thank you Gabe!!!

The coop sits on blocks of cement that the 4x4s sit right down in. We put the coop in place with our backhoe that had large forks mounted to the front bucket.. It worked great!

I am hoping the buried wire keeps all the predators out!!

The neat door was made out of leftover bat and hardware wire! The hinges and latch are what cost me! My Granddaughter loved the run!

My four Road Island Reds first time in the coop .Note I have an exit door for the chicks on the inside and another on the outside of that opening. That is because our winters can be fierce in Upstate New York! More chicks to come...2 Araucana, 2 Ridgeway White Leg Horn, 2 Barred Rock and 6 Buff Orpingtons will arrive in 3 weeks. Anyone have any ideas on how to introduce new chicks to the flock?

The run became a family affair. We used hardware wire and buried it over a foot in the ground. The corner & center poles are 4x4s and are cemented in. We have a real problem with Fisher cats and coyotes so I am afraid to let the chickens free range right now. I have a hawk who spends part of the day on the barn roof too! The run is 24 ft long and 10 ft wide. My son -in -law and Grandson did most of the work on the run in one day after the posts were cemented in and dried. Note the great view the chickens will have......overlooking the pond and fields!

A glimpse at my roosting poles that are 2x4s which gives the chickens a nice flat surface to roost on. I put trays under it that are filled with pine shavings now. I bought them at Lowes. I made a ladder to the lowest roost as the chicks were too small to get up there on their own. I think eventually I will take the ladder out. Let me know what you think!
