Overall shot of the 3 penned areas. This was never meant to be a permanent setup, it was just what we decided on for this winter. Our house is actually for sale, and I imagine all these geese on the lawn are not a selling point.

This is the bachelor's quarters. You can see how close to the house they are for the winter. All 3 pens are set up so they can see each other. They are so social, they do not like to be separated. I finally got used to the noise so I sleep through the night now.

This is the second goose hut. It is part of a cattle panel covered with used billboard tarp. Works great, and is portable, which is handy because we like to move the pens.

Here are the eggs I have collected so far. I am storing them in a basement cupboard. They are in an egg carton, with the small end slightly down, and they are turned every day. There is a small container of water to keep humidity up.

This is the nest that was made in the back of this hoop shelter. There is a smaller one off to the side, but this must be the one that was chosen. Pretty deep, and a perfect cone shape.

While I was out taking pictures, this pair commenced breeding. I only had kiddy pools last year, and that seemed like enough, so I did not change to the larger stock pools. I had not seen the girl's head submerged like this before though. It scared me a bit. The gander looks ragged because of all the fighting that had been going on before I finally split up the pairs. Things are much calmer now.

First egg of 2012. I have a small hand, so it might give you a sense of the size of the egg. It weighs 6 oz. even. It was laid Feb. 24, 2012.
