    They are on dirt. The framing of the coop and run is pressure treated wood and it is placed on the ground. The substrate in the run is concrete sand with several inches of Premium Chicken Sand on top.

This is the front view of my mostly finished chicken tractor. The upper triangle is the fold down door. In the winter they will go into my barn and with some tarps and straw bales they can be used either as a breeding pen or to raise my chicks in after they are out of the brooder.

I used wooden snow fencing for the roof of the tractors to let in lots of light but still provide shade in the summer.
