Thanks for understanding and encouraging me. We talked about it this evening and will put her down tomorrow. I so appreciate all of the wisdom and advice.
So it seems that you are saying this is likely going to kill her and at this point she is just suffering. Even though I am a nurse, I don’t want to drain ascites as a temporary solution. It sounds like you guys think this ISNT EGG BOUND and like the peritonitis that really isn’t curable...
She still seems the same. Epsom salt soaks daily, extra calcium and dusting with permethrin. Her abdomen is swollen. She is still eating and drinking. What do I do now? I don’t want her to suffer.
This is exactly how she is sitting. I can check tomorrow. I’ll read the article tonight. Thanks. She is sleeping now in the laundry basket. The other hens weren’t bothering her today.
She is eating and drinking. I gave her some cottage cheese with crushed oyster shell in it because initially I thought it was egg bound. Her abdomen is distended and she is sitting up tall like an owl and trying to contract something out at times. She ate that very quickly and wanted more...
I see nothing prolapsing. This is more what I’m worried about circled in black. There is poop on it but what is underneath looks necrotic. Which I fear is her tail.
Here is a picture where you can see her vent more clearly. The part above the vent appears to be fuzzy with feathers stuck in it which appears to be the end of her tail becoming necrotic. Nothing appears prolapsed though.
