We moved the chicks (all female) out of the house and into the coop 2 weeks ago. We had to build a new larger coop. I currently have 3 hens that are 3 years old. The cockerel was hatched by one my broody hens in July because I couldn't break her. I gave her an egg and he is the result. We...
I'm having this issue with our 10 month old cockerel. I've had the chicks in the coop with everyone for a couple of weeks inside the nursery part. When I let the 11 week old chicks into the run area, he attacks them. I'm afraid he's going to kill them. He needs these girls to grow up and be part...
It's my first time dealing with ascites. My husband and I drained 110 ml from our head hen Buffy last evening. I checked her belly this afternoon and noticed that some of her skin is looking different. Could this be due to her belly "deflating" where it was stretched so far before?
Nice to see so many replies. We are doing well here. My Buff Rocks are so freaking spoiled! LOL! The dogs love the chickens and hang out in the yard with them everyday. I never leave my girls unattended when they are out of the run because I'm afraid of the hawks. We are overrun with eggs and...
I have my first broody. We dug out the large dog crate that we used to raise these girls when they were chicks. We flipped it upside down, put the tray on the "roof" and placed it in the run, elevated over the sandbox. Since the yard slopes, we put two 2x4 under one side. We do have two 4x4s in...
Holy cow! 71 eggs!🥚 How many pullets do you have? I have five 6-months old Buff Plymouth Rocks who have been laying for about six weeks and we've gotten 176 eggs just in 30 days. Depending on how many girls you have, they could have been laying for quite some time. 😯
So sorry about your baby...
I could probably lure it into the chicken run, but of course I worry about Avian Influenza since there have been some cases in NC. Even if I could catch it with a net (which I don't have), what would I do with it? I've thought about locating a wildlife rehabilitator if there is one nearby to see...
We have a stray guinea fowl that showed up almost a week ago. It goes back and forth between my neighbor up the road during the day and then comes to our house to hang out outside of our chicken run in the evening. I noticed that it has an injured toe (it looks like a cut) and possibly a sore...
These are our girls. Luna our adopted AmStaff on the left and Abby our Boxador (Lab/Boxer) mix. We've had Abby since she was a puppy and Luna was was homed with us after flunking K-9 police training (she wanted to love on the "bad guys"). We love our pups!
We have an Alexapure and I love it! I try to clean the whole thing every 10 gallons or so. If it isn't clean then using it is pointless. But the water tastes so good that I don't mind that chore at all!
