No worries. You're the first person who has seen something similar I've encountered. Punk does not like being caught and won't come into the place I was catching him. From what I see as I get food close is he seems fine. At some point I will catch him again and check it out to make sure but...
I never got them tested. I called a vet and they said that they had likely been out too long. If it is some form of staff the vet said an injection that would work for bumble foot would take care of it. Punk never seemed to be ill or acting strange. His feathers were grungy for a bit but...
What happened with the hen? I have a rooster that has odd pockets white material in his comb. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1133166. I thought it was just slough off the comb but I wonder now if it is some sort of staff infection. It seems to be inside some section with hard nodules and...
Update:
Saw some white on the comb and caught the rooster (punk). More white stuff. in the area that the large pocket was in. It was filling in between flaps in the comb, forming to their shape. I can't see any other source for the material then slough off the comb. There is no hole that...
I think it seems better and less tender though I don't know if the roo notices unless I'm poking at it. He definitely reacted better to the follow up than the removal. I'm not sure there was any life threatening issue. I'm not positive what it was. It did not seem unhealthy but then...
Just checked the comb and the area has expanded back out and the pore? seems recovered. I believe it is less tender as he didn't seem to mind me looking at it as much.
Yitch, cellular slough, white or yellowish, hard or cheese like consistency. I don't think it's infection, but I don't want it to turn into anything. Some of the pockets are fairly impacted. Once the top becomes hard enough there is no exit and so it builds like a cyst.
I think it's a feather...
I had a chicken with water belly (ascites) which this sounds like. Yellow fluid and all. Good article on it : http://www.thepamperedpulletsfarm.com/Water_Belly.html
First guess would be a nick to a digestive wall from the needle that let contamination into the body cavity. The fluid is...
I don't know about the injection. I had an adult that a had a long cut along the neck and the skin definately was loose and flapped around. I neosporined and taped it close as best I could so dirt etc wouldn't get in and it healed fine. It was ... difficult to get the tape out of the neck...
The pictures. Unfortunatley the largest pocket didn't focus well. Pictures show me pulling yitch out of these pockets. One which was blurry with the yitch in it you can see after it's been cleaned out. Previously cleaned ones seem to close up and be fine. Still interested if anyone has...
I pulled some out. If you click on the picture you can get a bit better view and look at number 1. It's just a small pea sized spot and when worked a whitish ball of slug will come out. I don't believe there is anything diseased but could find nothing on this...zit type pocket. When I have...
I have not been able to lure him into the pump house to catch him. I took this with a telephoto so not the best shadowing from bright sun.
1) I think this may be a pocket but will have to catch him to be sure
2) deeper crevasse and the debris can be cleaned out
3) same as 2
I read quite a bit about the pox and don't believe it's pox. The comb looks fine with no dead or discolored spots. No ulcers or scabs. I hope to get some pics tonight but he is wary and not happy about being caught. Do people typically vaccinate for pox in the small flocks? Can you vaccinate...
