I've been able to get pounds of DE on Ebay, cheaper than at TSC or local feed store.

    Faverolles Thread

Hi all, Starting a small backyard flock this year I was lucky enough to find a farm with some Salmon Faverolle chicks. Now at about 5 months old, they have wonderful dispositions and are probably the prettiest chickens I have. The pictures just down do her justice. Being new at this though, I'm...

    Cochin Thread!!!

Here's a full pic of the one that was originally on the left in the close up. Granted, they were purchased from a pretty overcrowded, hobbled together backyard establishment, so I did expect to hear of mixed breeding at some point. They're very friendly but I already have a rooster so these...

    Cochin Thread!!!

Hi all, We recently took on two fully feathered blue Cochin bantams. Based on differences between wattles and combs, I believe we have one of each gender. Anyone want to help a newbie out with some educated guesses?

    The Welsummer Thread!!!!

The more grainy, side profile pic is of the one with an upward tail, more golden tones, and NO muffs. I can get more pics if that'd help. Any ideas? Breeding? G ender?

Also, the one with muffs has downward-turning tail feathers and the one without has upright. Other than these feather patterns, their colors...

    Homemade Feedmill Mix!

I'm feeling brave and I'd like to make the leap from store-bought bags of feed and into the realm of self mixed grains from local feed mill. Still in the research stage, I'd love to hear advise on what would be considered an ideal blend. My girls' ages range from 8wks to only as old as 12...

    How many eggs?

Hey folks, We're starting our backyard flock this year and the chicken bug bit me hard! We're currently brooding 21 in our basement while the coop is under construction. I have a few rookie questions though. 1. Most we purchased as sexed females but a few were straight, I know I have at...
