Fred was such a pretty Drake in his "Midnight" coloring. He was a sweet boy and will be missed even tho we only had him a short time. At least he got to know what it was like to be a spoiled duck.
This is Walter, aka Mr Duck. He is a little skittish, but a fantastic lookout and alarm drake...
Thank you for your kind words.
The girls were visibly sad, but Maverick the baby goose was doing his best to keep lookout for them. We did find a Khaki boy to re-home and brought him home Thursday. He is a little flighty, but is blending in with the group exceptionally well!
If i understand correctly, they are not very big. Supposedly they get to approx 1000 times larger during mating season. Still, maybe the size of a pea??? I have no pics avail.
Thank you for all the kind words.
Lucy & Ethel came along when Ritz was still around and are now about 4 1/2. They have been thru sooo much and have always had each other, then Cheez-it to depend on. They were visibly sad and acting "1 duck down" and wouldn't leave each other's side...
Thank you for the tip!
Here is a pic of him and his girls Ethel & Lucy 3 days prior. You can see his big belly.
Lucy LOOOOOVED her Big Cheeze!
That was also one of his favorite spots, so that is where he now is.
I am sorry to hear about your boy. It really sucks when we can't "fix" or pets. It sounds like you are doing your best at making his days as happy as possible. Ducks sure seem happy and know when you are trying to help them. My wife and i dedicated our time to do the same as you. The...
Well, STILL no Fred. Searched the property more and still not even a feather in a 1/2 mile radius! Found 4 aluminum cans, 2 bottles, and 2 old garbage bag piles prob the handy work of a thieving bear tho. Also checked most of the other local ponds (No Ducks) as well as put the word out to...
From what was explained to us, the implants are sometimes used in aggressive drakes or ganders in attempt to suppress testosterone and curb aggression In our case with Ritz, we tried it to attempt to shrink the testicals to give some relief and "reduce the pinch" of the nerve. Unfortunately, it...
Hello all!
One of the reasons that i joined this forum was due to the vast information i've found available from people with tons of 1st hand knowledge and experience. Its a super great way to "share" that information gained thru many years of experience. Besides having Khaki ducks now for...
Unfortunately still no sign of Fred. More looking around the property and still not even 1 feather found. The girls and the goose are definitely missing him but NO signs of traumatic experience. If something DID get him and take him, they most likely never saw it happen. It would have been...
Yeah, i figured a cyote could get over the heavy gauge 1.5x3" wire fence if it really wanted to, but its definitely an added barrier to add some time for a retreat. We haven't had an issue with them around the house, especially in the daytime. Tho, its never a problem... Until it IS, right...
We are totally perplexed and fear the worst. Hoping for the best tho. Either way, situation No Bueno.
After losing our or beloved 6 & 1/2 year old Khaki drake to a testicular tumor, we adopted / rescued a 1 & 1/2 yr old Khaki drake to be a new boyfriend (and 3rd set of eyes) for our two 4 &...
