You do not need to do ANYTHING cruel like a wire bottom cage or a cold bath. All she needs is to be separated from the nesting boxes. Bring her inside for a few days to a week. Let her imprint on the nesting area fade. You'll know when she's ready to go back outside. She will start making...
We chalked it up to malnutrition since she was barely eating. We force fed her (did not crop feed, but would have now that we know how)... We'd offer her treats/food literally every 20 minutes to try to get her to have some nourishment. We did put water down her throat using a syringe. She...
Thank you for your reply!! I've been using both bending and neosporin after we soak. Just wondering if there is something better to soak her foot in beside epsom salts.
Hello! I have a hen with a badly infected toe. Our vet cut it open on Monday to take a biopsy (no results yet).
We have been doing foot soaks for 10 minutes a day, twice a day, using Eposom Salts.
Curious if anyone has used a diluted Oxine solution for an open wound in chickens? I see...
Do you know if she is eating or not? My girl was not eating so I had to force feed her (offering her food/treats every 15 minutes) and had to put water down her throat that I added vitamins to.
I had a girl that went through a very heavy molt, and started walking sideways and backwards like she was drunk. She was malnourished. We kept her inside for about a week and force fed her. She recovered fully!
Good luck!
I need help on the same topic. Just one of my hens has had watery poops for going on 4 months now! I've tried everything I can think of: De-worming, buttermilk and egg mixture, probiotics, no treats... Nothing seems to help. She is otherwise bright, perky, and happy -- just has the runs!
She may have some sort of infection in her girl parts. Can you have her looked at by a vet? Our girl did the same thing last Fall. We ended up having to giver her an IUD so she'd stop laying eggs and allow her body to help fight the infection. And, it worked! To our amazement she is again...
I have a sweet 2 year old hen who needs antibiotics 3x a day for the next two weeks to fight a nasty infection in her foot. Have been told this is the only option we have have as the infection is resistant to every other type of oral medication.
Any advise on how to make this less painful...
I have looked around to see if she has been dropping them somewhere else, but she does sit in the designated nesting box for a good few hours each day. She is acting perfectly normal.
