I noticed the last response on this topic was March 31, 2017. I just wormed my hens yesterday with Valbazen before I knew the withdrawal because of the positive feed back I read on how well it worked. I see the last question wasn't really answered. I can't see that feeding the eggs back to...
I don't have a Rooster with these girls. However I did see one of the hens act like a rooster last year. Thought it was the weirdest thing I ever saw. Not sure if she is the culprit or not.
I have had RIRs that are aggressive, but I have also had some that were mello. So I think it depends on the bird. However I have loved the Wyandotte's temperments, and also the Buff Orpingtons. I usually have to have one Buff Orpington, and 1 Black Star in each of my groups, because of their...
I had this problem when I was using pine shavings. I changed over to hemp bedding and my girls don't scratch out the bedding anymore. I have 4 inch lip for their laying boxes. Using hemp bedding fixed my problem. It is expensive, I ordered mine on Amazon for $59.95 for 31 pounds. But I only...
My hens looked great until they molted this past winter. I thought they would feather up and they haven't. I tried using a red light, giving them goat milk in case they weren't eating enough protein. I'm feeding them feather fixer, and haven't noticed a change. I have been giving them...
This post is from awhile ago. I was able to find the Light Sussex from Chicken Scratch Poultry. With help from my brother in law was able to produce The Goldline Bovan. They have turned out quite nicely, much friendlier then the White leghorn with about the same egg laying ratio. I am very...
I originally posted this to the Coronation Sussex thread. I haven't had any response so decided to start a new thread asking the specific question that I have.
I am very excited to talk with others who love this breed! I purchased mine in July of 2014 from Chicken Scratch Poultry. I was...
Just found this thread. So excited to talk with others who love this breed! I purchased mine in July of 2014 from Chicken Scratch Poultry. I was blessed with 1 nice looking roo and 3 hens, unfortunately a barn owl got to one of my hens and I have just two left. But I am excited to breed them...
Thank you, that is very helpful! I have had chickens for approximately 10 years now but haven't butchered any of them before and especially the ones who have been on start and grow.
Roosters were on medicated start and grow till Friday November 7th. They are 18 weeks as of the 10. I do not want to feed them through the winter so I want to butcher them. Does anyone know long I need to wait till it is safe to butcher them?
