Wait. That's not all!
Apparently, my neighbor friend kept back 14 eggs- so when I proved I could hatch them, we set those as well. We were not very hopeful any would hatch because he put some under a hen and some left on the porch. With wildly changing temps we figured it likely all would have...
Final Update
On this hatch. the 4th pip was very low, and while it was alive and showing beak, it died before hatching :(. [nothing obvious]. Happily, another egg pipped and hatched with no issues. So out of 9 eggs set, 6 looked viable at candling, and 4 healthy chicks survived!! Pretty good.
Yesterday was so busy!! So here’s my late update. Right smack in the middle of our annual summer crab feast, little chick #3 hatched to the excitement of everyone. We have a 4th that pipped last night and 2 more to go, so fingers crossed and prayers sent! 🐣🐥
Hello BYC community,
I was here about 9 years ago when our three youngest and I successfully hatched 10 out of 18 eggs for a science project. [and gave the baby chicks to friends w/ chickens]
It was a super cool experience and I've been wanting to do it again for a LONG while. And that time...
I'd like to know where the forum gets it's 'more smilies' and how can you add those to another site. I am really missing those cool- wide range of emotion, emoticons on my other forums,

The last six were all dead. I don't know what the cause. They all looked like complete chickens. Including Humpty Dumpty- So he DID survive the intial crack!!!
There was a lot of liquid and yolk in them, but have no clue what's normal. . Egg #17 was wiggling on day 20, but was one that...
Good news - a little late.
Little Caesar is up waddling around now! I think he's going to be okay. I'll try to post a pic. Tomorrow.
Still waiting on the 6 eggs. Giving them til Sunday. Then I plan to take them outside for autopsy.
I'm very happy that friends of ours decided they wanted...

I'm new to this too. We just hatched our first- for a science fair project. 10 little chickies and I think they are all mixed breeds. From pip to hatch can take a very long time!! Some of ours took 20 hours. It does seem to move along a little faster once they 'zip.' [but not...

Okay, I decided to go ahead and help. The 4 chicks have been in there long enough and I didn't think he would ever hatch, but just die anyway. At least I could try.
We did the steamy bathroom method again, even though the other 6 eggs haven't pipped, I figured the chick would need...
Ugh, It's day 23 and still 'halfway' has yet to hatch. He still looks like he's breathing, though. Every now and then the other chicks come over and peck at him where he's zipped. What I should I do???
