We ended up getting some temporary fencing. Part of our concern is the amount of clay in our ground. I foresee having to move the one multiple times most likely. I'm waiting to get settled in our new place and I was going to go the enclosure route
Hey all, first spring (and a wet one) at that for our ducks. We have always had them free to roam all fall and winter. Now that they are a year old they have become adventurous and traveling to the neighbores. Any recommendations to keep them around before I build a fence. We're moving in 2...
so yesterday it was single digit temps and i saw 2 of my anconas shivering. corralled all 6 ducks back into the coop and put in a heat lamp. they stayed in there all day even with the door open, we left the light on and shut the coop over night. this morning they didnt want to come out even with...
yeah we had it laying around so we figured why not. we used a 1500 watt heater from TSC and that keeps the boat thawed well into the single digit temps but we found tending to the water a lot harder and therefore let it freeze. im sure somewhere i have pics of the cayugas in the sun but i cant...

today we took advantage of the nice 31 degrees (i was in a tee shirt all day), and ran an extension cord from the house to the coop via a cable from the roof to a tree. now our water heater cords wont be a pain when we shovel and plow.
7f here this morning in maine. ducks came out of the coop and went right into the woods and thats where they stayed. came out long enough to get worms from us and then hunkered back down in the trees. seemed happy though. i also banked our coop with snow for a good wind break. as far as water...
so what we have done is this: our old fenced in pen was taken down. we took down everything but one "L" corner. we can encourage them to corner them selvs in the L and at that point its game over. we have 6, so we catch one, then corral the remainder and catch another.
to be a little bit more clear on the corn, we have been mixing it into their daily food about 25% worth a day. they will eat it in that form... but if its not mealworms, then they dont care one ounce
