The cool weather must be keeping people in bed today. I would be interested in hearing how everyone's gardens are growing. Mine has just started really taking off, it's pretty late compared to other years. The acorn squash is just now beginning to set fruit, is that normal (I've never grown...

re leeches, I concur with Raz and Keyt - the likely way the leeches got up out of the pond would be a turtle. some of the largest leeches I've seen have been on turtles. Less likely, but still possible, a duck or goose. If the yard is really wet (such as after a heavy rain) or if you have...

So much for forecasts! It's dark and distant thunder, some rain - could be a good one, but looks like it may be quite south of us... Be safe everyone.

Quote: We have plenty of Boomers around here too if you're talking about baby boomers. Seriously though, are you on the west side of the state? It's bright and sunny here in A2, a bit overcast up toward Opa, but blue skies south, east and west as far as the eye can see. Forecast is not...

Quote: Hey Raz, What class are you taking? I took a couple at Fish Lake when I was getting my Masters in Science - from Michael Kielb. Great classes, but yep tons of work! The "youngsters" had a hard time keeping up with us more seasoned teacher/learners. I too love salamanders, do you...

Fifelake, have you tried giving them less space to run around in or confining them to the coop for a day or two with their food and water? Do you have food/water in the coop for the little ones? If you think they may be afraid of the rooster, you could move him into a place away from the...

I love the Buffs also, very docile and regular layers. They do have a tendency toward broodiness but hey, why not? They are a nice, natural all purpose bird.

Quote: The governor was included, now that's a good deal! I would think he's worth more than $15.87. Fifelake, so happy to hear your hubby is doing well On another note, two predators today - first my killer mini dachshund opened the gate into the chicken yard and got ahold of one of the...

My chicks are out also at 5 weeks, pretty much feathered out and they go into the shed at night, no light, they are thriving and loving picking at the grass, "flying" and chasing butterflies. Quite amusing little toddlers Keyt, the only birds we have named are the roosters and the LF cochins...
