There is a farm here in Lapeer that sells it at a decent price. If you think you might be in the area send me a pm and I can get their # or Web addy for you.

I predict Oak Park will come to regret this. There's a lot of publicity about it, petitions, etc. I find the whole thing rather ironic. Historically, grass was grown by French aristocrats to show that they were wealthy enough, and had enough space, to NOT grow food, while poor french peasants starved for lack of farm space. Now, middle class and poor folks grow grass, while wealthy agribusinesses grow our genetically-modified, pesticide and fungicide drenched food products. It's killing us. And yet, we continue to grow grass. Don't even get me started!

This is very sad, I need my garden to survive the winters. The cost of everything! I don't think it is ugly enough to "hide" in the back yard. It's a wonderful way to teach the neighborhood kids good eating habits and gives them something to stay busy with.

Good morning all!

I have a problem and could use input PLEASE...

I have my new auto chicken doors...the one for the laying hens....works great. We just installed another auto coop door on the coop that houses the English Orps (I have 5) and 13 Jersey Giants. They are 3 wks. apart in age. The problem is that even at 10pm the young jerseys do NOT go into the coop. They pile into a corner of the enclosed run. The Orps are in and piled in front of the "human door". At first I thought it was because they were all use to having a light on at night. Then I thought the roo was bullying them. It MAY be both but I need to train them to go in. I put in a 2nd perch...a low one at 2 ft. They CAN get on it...I've seen them do it. At night---NONE are on the perches. These girls/roos are from 7 wks. to 10 wks. I am considering spraying the younguns with the spray nozzle lightly at the time the auto door starts closing to try to train them to run in. It seems mean...and I hate to have them go to roost damp. I am at a loss....ANY IDEAS???
Thanks my friends.

Just sharing a few pictures before I start the day's work.
This is Amadaus one of my French Black Copper Marans roosters. He's only 14 weeks old.

This is Penny my ISA survivor of the fox attack. She loves me and comes running the minute she sees me. Worf (EE rooster in the background) will not leave her alone and she is terrified of him. She is under foot as close to me as she can get when he is out.

This is a cute little bench my builder made for me from a twin bed I found at Salvation Army and that's Sachi, my (Chinese Crested) chicken dog.

Have a great day everyone!

Fifelake, have you tried giving them less space to run around in or confining them to the coop for a day or two with their food and water? Do you have food/water in the coop for the little ones? If you think they may be afraid of the rooster, you could move him into a place away from the youngsters. If you've done those things, then I'm stumped too.

Chickmate,
I love the bed/bench. My sister in law has a bed made from a piano, kind of random if you ask me.

Judy! I LOVE that bench!! I think I need to get Aric onto making me a similar one! He refinished an old coffee table that's been in my family since I was born. When we were in 2nd grade, my best friend at the time and I were dancing on it and singing and broke it. Aric was the only one that could fix it! He's amazing with word working sooo now I want a bench LOL

Today is coop cleaning day. We had planned on getting up extra early to beat the heat but we were out far too late fishing last night and didn't get to bed til about 2 am. Now my butt is dragging. Oh well, gotta do what we gotta do!!

Today is also my son's 22nd birthday. Sadly his girlfriend and her mother (whom he lives with) won't let him talk to any of his family so I'll just have to wish him happy birthday in my head.
