    Hens dying one by one

Your other chickens ate another chicken before you got out there that day? - I assumed it was the chickens eating them but the TAMU Vet says no. He listened to my story, looked at the dead chicken I brought and said it is most likely rats or some other predator, But he is proceeding with the...

    Hens dying one by one

Ok, I had a dog attack and injured a few chickens. One of them died in the coop one night shortly afterward. (Didn't notice any injury on her, but she may have been.) The others ate it before I got out there that day.🤪 Then one more died and I have had one or two die each evening since. Some...

Anyone tried Purina’s new high protein feed?

Not interested in the chain store or the mega manufactures. I use local feed stores who sell Lone Start Feed, a locally manufactured layer feed out of Nacogdoches, Texas. Been using the same feed for 10 years. I sell every egg my girls produce and have zero problems.

    Mama Hen and Chicks

I have a mama hen that hatched and is raising 10 chicks. I have them all in a 10 x 12 area separated from the rest of the flock. The chicks are about 4 weeks old. At what age (the chicks) do I let mama out with the rest of the flock? When will she be done raising/taking care of them? The area I...

See but no touch not working

Releasing her into an area approx 50 feet x 75 feet. It is a wooded area that is fenced off so there are hiding places. I am ordering 16 chicks soon so maybe I will just keep her in her 10'x6' area..... until I release all 16 on the gang of bullies....LOL

See but no touch not working

I lost a mamma hen to a hawk while she was raising a single chick. The chick managed to take cover, and survived. I finished raising her inside and when she was ready to withstand the temperature, I put her in an enclosed area (sides are all wire) right next to the main chicken run. My main...

    One Breed or Several?

Thank you all. Excellent points and ideas that I did not think of. :thumbsup My goal is to work this into a profit thing.....eventually. (Also, I want to raise my own meat and eggs) Eggs and Chickens sell real well in my area, and I have the ability to separate different breeds as far as...

    Cochins!

Not a laugh, it sounds like a laryngitis cry. I recorded it. Can't upload it here. Will try to PM it to you.

    One Breed or Several?

As a relative new chicken owner, I have had some pretty bad luck starting out. Let's just say that after trapping and killing 3 coyotes that were jumping my fence in the middle of the day, I am down to 4 layers after starting out with 9. My first mistake was having so few, because now that it is...

    Cochins!

My first cochin does not sound like a normal chicken. Sounds like laryngitis. Is that normal in a cochin?
