Loss of feathers, bleeding tail feathers, naked bums ... help!

My girls are all under a year old and I think they are molting - they have naked bums! Is this normal? Have been keeping a close eye on them and today noticed that one of my leghorn/barred rock crosses has tail feathers/pin feathers that are bleeding and now a couple of the girls are pecking at...

What type of "floor" is best for a permanent run that was built on dirt/lawn?

We have a permanent coop and run. In the coop, I put down straw and pine shavings and clean it out weekly, no problems there. In the run, we've put down a couple layers - probably 2-3 inches thick - of river rock pebbles over the dirt. But the poop builds up fairly quickly, to the point where...

Do hens get red combs ? And waddles?

Thank you -- we had one rooster that started to develop his comb around just 2 months and heard him crow - so that one we figured ;). These 3 girls (hopefullly girls!) have all just turned 5 months and their combs developed in the last 3-4 weeks - I looked at pics from late-July (so just about...

Do hens get red combs ? And waddles?

I have 2 barred rocks and 1 leghorn amongst my flock - they were born in April - so about 5 months. They don't seem to be laying at all --- and they have combs - probably about 1 inch in height off the top of their heads. Could these be roosters? They don't "crow" like a rooster! ... But I'm...

Tiny chicks at 3+ months old -- thought they were speckled sussex, but not sure?

Thanks for all the responses -- I looked at that Cacklehatchery site and the pics of the old english black breasted red bantams definitely looks like them now, and the day old pics as well -- we got them when they were just a few days old. Does anyone know if they will get any bigger/fill out...

Tiny chicks at 3+ months old -- thought they were speckled sussex, but not sure?

Our golden comets (in the middle), who are only 7 weeks old, are more than double the size of what we thought were speckled sussexs that are now more than 3 months old. Any ideas of what we might have -- they seem to have stopped growing -- or are there 'dwarf' breeds?
