I have four hens, they are about a year old. In the last few days I've noticed two of them are missing their belly fluff. Everything else seems fine, we are still getting 2-3 eggs/day from the group, they have been roosting on their bar, laying eggs usually in their nesting boxes. Do you think...
Happy to say the chickies have been doing well in their new digs. While they are starting to understand how to climb up and down the ladder we are still having to help them (sometimes just sticking one chick through the hole, and the rest figure it out) though they all climbed up after their...
The girls are out any my husband and I already discussed a huddle box setup as well as wrapping the coop with a tarp, and bringing them back in if we think it's too cold!!
So far they are in heaven:
I'm not sure what they will do about the ladder, but hope they will be adventurous!
Thanks...
I know this is a frequent topic of discussion but was hoping for some personalized advice. We live in southern VT, where spring is just arriving (after the winter that never was)...we have four chicks who are six weeks old. All but one are fully feathered on their heads and necks (the fourth has...
I don't know if we can hang it with the setup we have right now. I really need the coop to be finished so we can kick them outside!!! We could even run a heat lamp for a few days bc they are not fully feathered yet...
I'll see what my ingenious other half can figure out!
Hi,
We have 4 chicks approx 5 weeks old that are INSISTENT that their feeder belongs on its side. It's a chick feeder with a 1-quart jar. It used to be on a platform but they kept knocking it off the platform so we tried it on the ground of the brooder but they keep knocking it over from the...
The chicklets are now about four weeks old and I thought updated pictures might help my guessing game!
First up is Mocha, reported to be RIR when we got her...
Next up is Chip. At last guess, possibly a Welsummer or brown leghorn:
Third is Gertie, who was "supposed" to be a buff...
We have an a-frame coop with the coop at the very top of the structure. Should we be closing the door every night or is it ok to allow the chickens to go up/down as they wish? I imagine in winter we will need to make sure it's closed so that they stay warm, right?
Thanks for any advice :)
