Need someone to remodel my coop - South Bay Area

I have a coop and am hoping to add some square footage, a window, etc. Can anyone refer me to someone who builds chicken coops in my area? South Bay Area.

What to do w/ newly hatched chicks in nest box high off ground

I have 5 chicks hatching under a broody hen. At least one is fully hatched and fluffy. She chose her own nest in the coop and is alone in there - no other hens to pester her or chicks. But, it only just dawned on me that the chicks will never be able to get in and out of there. They could fall...

Hen broody 2 weeks - Can I still give her eggs?

I have an Americauna who has been broody for about two weeks. We've been working on an expanded coop and were not quite ready to get new chicks. But, do I still have time to order eggs and let her hatch them? I don't know if she'll give up too soon as we didn't get started right away.

    Roosting Pole

Thanks. My coop (http://www.forshamcottagearks.com/poultry-housing/orpington-poultry-house.htm) didn't come with a roosting pole. It has two nest boxes on each side with a ladder type ramp to get into the boxes. The literature said the hens would roost on the ladder and the poop collects...

    Roosting Pole

Does a standard wooden closet pole make an adequate roosting pole?

    Coyote Attack

Thanks, I found the thread on dog attacks. Wow! I never thought about dogs being such a problem. I must be very lucky to own a dog who is protective of my birds. Bengal is a rescued pit bull mix and if I am not in the yard with free ranging hens, I am usually diligent about making sure the dog...

    Help! Does anyone see this?

I posted re: a coyote attack and got no responses. Does that mean I did something wrong? I do not understand the workings of a forum. Is my question un-interesting - or have I done something wrong?

    Coyote Attack

I just rescued my approx. year-old RIR from the jaws of a coyote. She lost all tail feathers and has at least two lacerations. They are bloody, but not actually bleeding much. I have isolated her with food and water and she is pecking at scratch like normal. I'm sure I need to worry about...

Anyone else waiting for thier first egg?

I have 10 young birds. The Leghorn and 2 RIR are now 20 weeks old. One of them left a tiny, but perfect egg in the box this past Friday! But nothing since. The rest are 11 & 12 weeks old and have a ways to go before they lay. I'm guessing it is normal to start out erratically at the beginning...

Putting chickens to bed at night

Thanks all. I guess patience is in order with the youngsters. But, I'm wearing out my patience just waiting for an egg! I guess there won't be eggs until they figure out the roosting thing ...

Putting chickens to bed at night

I am a brand new chicken farmer. Started w/ 2 RIR and 1 Leghorn now 17 weeks. They learned to walk the plank to their coop at night just fine. I added 7 more assorted chicks now 10 weeks old. I had the older and younger birds separated until they were all about the same physical size. I would...

SF Bay Area - two 6-week Mille Fleur Leghorn Roosters to good home

I have two gorgeous Mille Fleur Leghorn roosters I got with some straight run chicks. They are from Sand Hill Preservation Center and are healthy and funny. I can't keep the roosters and would like to know they are going to a good life somewhere. I don't want to ship, but you could pick-up - or...
