I'm going through this same thing right now. I'm in the initial stages of building a new 8ft x14ft coop, and I want to be sure I've decided on an interior layout before I place the windows and doors. The entire structure will actually be 16 feet long, but I'm building a wall to portion off 3...
I'm hoping the BYC community can help me figure this out.
I have a three day old Cuckoo Maran chick that has an unusual skin flap? As well as bare skin directly adjacent to the skin flap. See attached pics.
Chick seems ok. Seems to be eating and drinking. The bare skin isn't red, bleeding, or...
I would separate the chicks from the hens until they are bigger. Also, giving them spaces that they can run away from the hens might work well. I'm thinking like a cubby or divider that has a hole that is only big enough for a chic to pass through, not a hen.
Rotten trees are great for the garden! I've put partially rotten logs as the bottom layer of my raised beds with great success. If nothing else, toss it into your compost pile and use it in next year's beds.

This is all such great information! It's so awesome to have access to a community of people who are knowledgeable and helpful. And it beats the heck out of reading Amazon reviews ;)
I could be wrong, I'm fairly new to this. But it seems to me that not all breeders pay as close attention to the standard as might be preferred. Good luck with your flock! :)

As far as I know, you are correct, the only importer is Greenfire Farms. However, they brought their first batch over a while back... I want to say 2010? 2011? Since then, a number of people have been breeding from that original stock. It doesn't take that many generations to see...
FoodFreedomNow - Where did you get your genetics from? Is that your cockerel in your profile pick? Beautiful. I'm getting ready to add some AB to our flock this year, and I'm trying to figure out where I should order from.
