Gosh I hope late developers are not also poor layers! My best producers are my hybrid brown shavers - about 360 eggs a year in the first year - declining in the second and almost all spent after two years. The purebreds seem to be not as quite as prolific but do lay for longer. Here's hoping!
It takes a couple of weeks to train the chickens - you start with the lid fully open then gradually set it lower so the chickens get used to the movement caused by standing on the platform. They can still see the food at this point. Eventually you leave the lid closed and chickens activate it...
Hi thanks - helpful replies. Yes the toes on one foot are curled at times but the leg isn't splayed. It just lies on its back once it has flipped - then occasionally turns over - lifts its head right back and flips again. It's 12 hours since it hatched so guess I'll see how it is in the morning .
