I'm interested in them but not the Rooster (we have rooster already and not sure how he would do with other roos). We are up in Kingston, but don't know when I could make it to yelm.
Definitely plan on letting the ladies molt. We just are pretty darn north here in the Seattle region and our days are about 8 hours long at solstice so I was thinking of doing supplemental light oct-nov and march. But if Pullets will lay well during this time, maybe I don't need to.
We were processing our meat birds yesterday an found that one of our birds had a cardiac effusion. Or at least that's what we think it was. We were wondering why he was the runt of the litter. That explains it. Showed no other signs of illness. Was foraging and running to the end. 3 pounds 5...
It depends on weather the sickness is localized or generalized. We just had bird with what looked to be a cardiac effusion. We're chose not to through him out but we did throw away the heart. It did explain why he was the runt of the litter.
Howdy. I am in the process of building a ChickShaw and I'm hoping to get my ladies to lay a little later into the winter. They'll be off the pasture November - February (it's wet here in Seattle), but I was hoping to find an easy way to get light to the Chickshaw during Aug-October to keep them...
