Can Quail be on 1in wire floor?

I've have the best luck with the 1"x1/2" welded wire. The quail have no issues running on it and all of their poop falls through. It is also a thicker gauge wire. I have another pen with a 1/2"x1/2" welded wire floor which works for the birds, butt all of the poop, especially in the winter...

    Canadian Breeder list

I'm in Peterborough County. I raise pet quality silver appleyard ducks (great layers, excellent meat ducks, good mothers), I have a mixed flock of ducks (layers) and Muscovies. I also raise coturnix quail in several different colours. I recently acquired black east indie ducks as well...

Rescued a Muscovy - Sexing Help.

Miss Lydia, Is he a young drake then? Facial carnuckling seems minimal. I'm not sure who the outsider is. When my 17 other ducks saw the muscovy, they high-tailed it to the duck house and wouldn't come out the rest of the day. Thanks.

    Strange behavior...kinda worried

Sorry, I don't. They don't do it all that often, and it's hard to know when they will do it. When the ducks start getting a little more "active", I will start carrying my phone around more. Maybe I can capture it.

    Strange behavior...kinda worried

It sounds like the same sound my appleyards make during breeding season. It starts as a sharp whistle and seamlessly transforms into a low guttural hum. The sound is about 1 second in length. My appleyards also drop their heads and necks down low when making this sound. I don't think you need...

Rescued a Muscovy - Sexing Help.

Morning everyone. I rescued a muscovy yesterday. This duck had shown up at someones front door and spent a night in her veranda. There were no nearby farms and it was in a trailer park on a river which has been frozen over for awhile. It is unlikely that the duck walked or swam to her...

    Daily Duck Egg Report

I'm not looking to run electricity to the duck house. I was hoping you, or others, may have a cheaper solar powered options or ideas. I'm fine with them not laying in the winter too. They lay like champs through the other 3 seasons of the year. Hopefully some will take up laying in the winter...

    Daily Duck Egg Report

So your ducks have light 24 hours/day between the natural light and the LED bulb, or do you just supplement with the LED bulb to get so many hours per day? I'd like to have a light on but don't have access to hydro at the duck house. Any ideas on how to get around that? Thanks, Chris.

    Daily Duck Egg Report

HDF and Patolocoeggs: I am assuming that you are keeping a light on your ducks to have them laying this time of year? I'm just on the north side of Lake Ontario and my ducks (appleyards, khaki, cayuga and a few mixes) are not laying at all. Not since mid November. 10 of my girls just started...

    Duck Egg Sizes

Hey Amiga, What is the average weight of your runners eggs? 4 months eh....? Seems like a very long time. Anyone else reading this, feel free to post your average egg weights. Please indicate your ducks breed and age.

    Duck Egg Sizes

I've read that when ducks start laying, their eggs will be on the small side and you may get some weird things. I only have two ducks laying at the moment. They are consistent every morning. My cayuga lays eggs that average around 68 grams. My Welsh harlequins eggs average 56 grams. At what...

    need duck nesting boxes

I'm very new to laying ducks so take this with a grain of salt. I used an open top wood box that the ducks did use however all of the ducks would visit the box and the eggs would get covered in poop. I have recently switched to a 5 gallon bucket on its side with a piece of wood screwed into...

Another "My Ducks Aren't Laying Yet" Thread

The bedding is fairly tidy. Perhaps just getting rid of some of these excess drakes will help out. A chore that does need to be done, and soon. Too many feet in the coop at night. I am determined to have a nesting box that the ladies use. I will let you know how it develops over the next few...
