Hen was attacked - Wounds on Back and Potential (?) Keel Bone Injury

Thank you so much for your response! And I am so sorry for your loss - grateful to have this group to turn to. This picture is great - I've been googling the heck out of "keel bone" and this is by far the best image I've seen to explain it. My vet didn't mention electrolytes - she seemed very...

Thank you for that information! The more and more I learn about and witness chickens, they are such interesting animals. So much more than on the surface!

My Chicken's Face turns from Red to Pale to Red Again

Thank you! I swear sometimes out of the corner of my eyes I see some of them trying to crow! I've read so many stories of people ending up with roos...I'm so attached to them now, and although our neighbors were all ok with the hens,I don't think they would be happy with a new alarm clock...

My Chicken's Face turns from Red to Pale to Red Again

Thanks so much for the reassurance! I am outside with them everyday, and for long periods of time on the weekends. No roo (we hope), and no squatting yet, but I'll keep an eye on it! Thanks again!

    Our Beginner Chicken Mansion!

Hello All! I wanted to share some pictures of our coop/run that was built by me, my husband, and son, complete and total novices to building anything! The total cost for this was around $1,500. However, we used all brand new wood and had to buy tools, like a saw. We were on a rush to get...

My Chicken's Face turns from Red to Pale to Red Again

My Chicken's Face turns from Red to Pale to Red Again

No, it's definitely their faces. I sit out with them and watch their faces turn colors before my eyes. And the color difference is much stronger in person versus on the camera. It seems to be when they are running around or go "on alert", their faces turn more red, and when they are...

My Chicken's Face turns from Red to Pale to Red Again

Hello All!! My chickens are currently 14 1/2 weeks old, and I've been noticing that my Buff Orpington and Silver Laced Wyandotte's faces turn from red to pale, or pale to red, and it happens within minutes. It is hot here in Florida, but they have plenty of shade and water. Is this anything...

    Help baby chick maybe dying

Sorry...just saw your other posts....I used a dropper I had on hand to get mind to drink. You could also try just putting the sugar water in a bowl and dip her beak in it. The going ratio I've seen is 1 tsp sugar. to a quart of water. I think as long as the chicks aren't hurting her, she's...

    Help baby chick maybe dying

Hello Again...So I did a quite a bit of "googling" and the best I can come up with is "constricted toe syndrome". However, there is barely any information out there about it. The site with the most information I could find was this one...

    Help baby chick maybe dying

I have no idea about her foot...but have you tried giving her some sugar water or electrolytes? We had a baby chick who was extremely lethargic and it seemed to help her pep up.

First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

We are really lucky with our dog, Jasmine. We've had her since she was a puppy, she's almost 8 now, and she listens so well. She's very socialized, goes to dog park/dog beach every weekend. For trainig her with the chicks, we had them in a brooder where she could see them, and kept them in...
