Our Welbar from dheltzel just started laying last week at six and half months old. Pic of egg color below. Very pleased with dheltzel's line of Welbars so far!
I have my first welbar - actually from dheltzel. We expect to see her laying in a month or two (probably late October at the earliest). She is about four to five months old and already has a gorgeous red comb and wattle coming in. She's so pretty - she is my husband's new favorite. While I don't...
I have one of dheltzel's birds and I am very pleased with her so far. She has at least another month before she is expected to lay, so I'll update once we get eggs. But she gorgeous, calm, and less skittish than our other new pullet. I have no doubt she'll be just as friendly as our older hens...

I have updated the post as well. Cannot wait to get the duck feeding area complete - will definitely share! Thank you to everyone on here. Such a supportive community.
I just wanted to give an update for anyone who might have a duck with similar symptoms. The tests all came back negative but there were signs of intestinal inflammation in addition to her neurological symptoms. We suspect botulism caused by ingesting mold. Here we are, three weeks later, and she...

Hi all,
I am sharing this post I just put on my blog about my pet duck, named Goose. I finally bit the bullet and took her to the vet. Yes I understand that it is prohibitively expensive to take every sick member of our flock to the vet. But she's my only duck, and she is like a little puppy...
My chickens are having some feather issues - one of the girls is pecking the butt feathers off of everyone else, and then one of the victims of her bullying has taking to plucking her own feathers where she can reach them. It devastates me, because she has the more gorgeous feathers of the...
Given that respiratory infections have an incubation period of one to two weeks, I find it hard to believe that you could purchase chickens in December and then have them die of an illness they had all along in February.
I have also used a heated dog bowl for frozen water. We actually have a nearly enclosed portion of the run that houses a heat lamp over a sand box and right under the actual coop. This also has the benefit of the coop getting the rising heat. The heat lamp is bolted in so it cannot fall and...
