My mother in law got 6 buff Orpington chicks that are around 8-10 weeks old a couple of weeks ago.
Some of them have a clear nose drainage, occasionally sneeze and I can hear a tiny noise when they breath.
She said they are eating, drinking and very active and symptoms don't seem to be getting...
I am happy to report that 4 1/2 very long weeks later Mr Larry is on the mend. He still isn't perfect but getting closer every day.
He has shown me to not give up and to have lots and lots of patience and not care if people think your a crazy chicken lady devoting so much time and energy...
This past week has been awful, everyone got a respiratory infection so I have been quite busy giving medicine, monitoring everyone and doing everything possible to keep them cool in 100 degree weather.
Mr Larry's neck issue is not good, I am still giving vitamin e, Selium and polyvisol but while...
Things don't seem to be getting better as much as I was hoping.
It's the end of day 3 on Tylan 50 so they have each had 6 doses of .75ml.
1 seems to be almost perfect, 1 seemed to never have any symptoms and the other 4 are still coughing, flinging snotty stuff and I can hear their chest...
Yes they were culled, I am certain they had other issues and were a lot older than I was told too. From now on I won't be "feeling bad" for other chickens and try to help them.
By carrying it forever does fhat mean they will always act sick?
So I made a stupid mistake and got 6 new hens and let them in with my chickens after only 4 days by themselves. The chickens came from a place where they were over- crowded and badly over- used by the roosters so they looked terrible but I figured the best way to help them was to let them with...
He has been back with his buddies for several days and seems to be doing pretty good, I still catch him doing the neck tuck thing a few times a day so each morning I let him come out alone to eat watermelon with his vitamins. He is a big baby now and loves the attention, pretty much stays right...
I crushed the selenium and b complex and spread it on top of a watermelon slice then dribbled the e and poly on another slice and watched him eat every bit of it.
Hopefully a few more days of that and lots of extra attention and he will be much better. Today he had a tiny bit more pep in his...
I am looking at Selenium at Walgreens and the tablets are 200mcg, when I do the conversion it says that is 0.2 mg, am I reading this wrong or will I need to give several tablets to equal 25mg?
Any suggestions on how to force feed a chicken medicine, do I just hold his beak open (I am assuming...
I just gave him a bath and got most of the nasty poop soaked off, I actually think he enjoyed the blow dryer.
I am giving him a few drops of polyvisol and vitamin e several times a day and he will take like 2 tiny sips most of the time.
I tried scrambled eggs and the raw egg mixture with yogurt...
I am torn still on what is wrong, he can act perfectly fine for a little while then he drops his head and kindof sways it side to side under his chest and will often lay down at this point. He has squirty poop bc I literally hear it and it's stuck all over his fuzzy booty feathers. This morning...
I was thinking this morning that I was almost ready to put Him down bc he didn't want any food or water and then a little bit ago he started walking around his crate so I told him outside and he is acting so much better, walking around and took a bite of food and nibbling at the grass. He still...
