We got a few chicks from TS last week. Noticed that one did a funny head stretching thing now and then, but didn’t really think about it. Yesterday, we discovered a giant lump on her chest. I’m wondering if it’s an impacted crop? It’s very squishy and there’s a small bald spot where it’s...
No, that duck sadly died. They are on all flock pellets (as we have chickens also). We also always have oyster shells for them.
Thank you for the advice. I greatly appreciate it.
After we got a a really bloody egg for the third day in a row, we discovered one of our sweet ducks was the unlucky one. At first I thought it was a vent prolapse, but on closer inspection, I’m pretty certain that’s not it. There seems to be a tear at the top with a lot of swelling around. We...
I was here a while back asking about Bumblefoot and I’m back again. Different duck. She’s had this for awhile and we realized we had better treat now. Just soaked her in Epsom salt and tried to pry the scab off, but it was SO thick it was impossible. We decided to just spray some vetricyn, put...
So we worked the scab off... and it all seemed healthy. This is what it looked like. Could it be that she was healing already? I’m feeling terribly guilty for inflicting pain for possibly no reason.
It’s just tissue. I don’t know any vets around who deal with poultry, and as much as I want her to get well and am terrified of having to put her down if she doesn’t, I’m not really in a place to spend a ton of money at the vet. Plus, we just got 30 inches of snow and things are pretty crazy...
She prolapsed again. We soaked her for a long time in epsom salt and tried to clean it a bit. Finally just sprayed some vetericyn and used sugar (per a recommendation) and pushed it back in. I’m feeling so sad. She’s still acting completely normal... and extremely pissed at us for all the...
Not only am I dealing with a vent prolapse, but also discovered my duck has bumblefoot. I’ve read so much, but am overwhelmed at what I should do. She’s been soaking in an epsom salt bath and I’ve been spraying her with vetericyn and bandaging the foot. I’ve heard I should squeeze the spot or...
That is what it looked like tonight. She’s still eating and drinking, active, swimming and preening. She pooped a few nasty ones today, but I figure for sure better out than in.
