Thank you. I hope your roo pulls through.
She perked up after the antibiotics, but after about a week was back to limping again. If I had to guess, she landed on the leg funny and popped something out of place that got infected. It didn't help that she'd lost her best buddy a month prior to...
@klb25 She passed. Some days were better than others for her leg leading up to it, but she never did put her whole weight back down on it.
I think she had an infection and her little body shut down even after a round of antibiotics.. I doubt it was specifically a slipped tendon, unless there...
Anyone know what I might be looking at here?
My silkie has been inside since we lost her buddy. All my other birds are larger and she got picked on as it was.
She wasn't eating for a bit and lost more weight than I was comfortable with. For now she's getting grower feed with extra vitamins...
How has your hen been doing?
I have a Silkie with a similar situation. She was doing fine, I brought her in due to picking and to let her gain some weight, and she's now not really using one leg. She will stretch it, but the toes don't bend and she'll hold it in front of her like she can't...
Sort of making progress. The foot is still as crooked as the day is long, but the purple is going down.
This little one is growing and walking a bit better each day. Still hates me fussing with the foot and trying to syringe vitamins though
Thanks for the positivity! Feels like there's always something going on with one of my chickens, but this is the first issue I've had with a chick.
Little peep is taped up again and I'll redo once that one loosens up.
I have a bantam cochin who doesn't want to put weight on one foot. I've already started probiotics, vitamin b and e and have taped the foot to help keep the toes spread.
The chick is eating and pooping fine, but is growing much slower than the others. It breaths a little heavy, but I can't...
@cherrynberry An olive egg - That would be so fun! She reminds me a bit of an Ameraucana so blue or olive would be a nice addition.
Once they are out of their quarantine pen it should be easier to tell who's laying what but at the moment they have one large nesting box and no good way for me to...
NHR looks to be a perfect fit! I was looking at Red Leghorns, but those didn't match either.
Those were the breeds she was told they were, but I don't think she did any follow-up of her own.
@sybonbon I'm getting three eggs from them right now and they are all different colors, but if I had...
I picked up a few hens since I'm planning on splitting my flock by size and my roo needed more ladies.
The lady told me two were Welsummer hens and two were cuckoo maran crosses. I don't particularly care about the breeds, if I have barnyard mixes that's totally fine with me as there's no plan...
Sorry to hear about your experience!
I used a heat lamp last year with my first chicks, but was always nervous they'd somehow knock it down or a stray feather would catch. I didn't have good luck with my pullets once they were out in the coop, so was hoping to try something different this year...
