I am treating my flock with Ivermectin. I don’t have the pour-on so I’m putting the regular Ivermectin, three drops on the skin at the back of the neck. I can’t find information on egg withdrawal. Some people choose to not eat the eggs for 5 to 7 days but there’s nothing definitive. What is your...
I wait until the little ones are 12 weeks, to introduce. One week where they can see each other but not touch, then a supervised mingle. A small amount of peck and chase is a necessary part of the routine but don’t allow a beat down. Nothing longer than 15 minutes. Not in the coop; I let them be...
As I was gathering up facts and information preparing to get chickens, one of the first things I caught is that scratch is candy. And it’s heat producing. You wouldn’t feed a child candy for their main meal.
Scratch grains are relatively low in protein and high in energy or fiber, depending on...
Update: that clutch was not a go obviously but since then, another became broody and hatched out her chicks perfectly. It has been two weeks. She has been away from the main coop, in our barn inside a small brooder. Out in the main coop there are seven hens and a rooster. Does the rooster change...
I have a hen with one eye shut. She is eating and otherwise acting normal but staying on the fringe of the flock. I want to apply an antibiotic to see if that helps. Can I use a triple antibiotic ointment, or do I need to get one specifically for the eye?
How old are they? Mine like the cups best, but I supplemented water in the chicken yard in case the littles needed it at first. Often I manipulated the yellow pin to fill the cup for them, and while they drank from the cup, they would bump the pin, which kept it full. They need a demonstration...

It’s the end of her time, + 3 days. No chicks. She has been sitting like a champ but it smells like she’s sitting on rot. There are even flies, which we’ve never had. Tomorrow I’m lifting her up and ending her brooding. So sad.
So I had wanted to give her a couple of extra days, knowing that other hens laid in her nest with her in it. Today is it and no chicks. No peeping. Only a putrid smell; I think she’s on rotting eggs. Maybe some were cracked?
