One hen who wanders really far without flock - new behavior.

That would make sense, they all go broody all the time and maybe she's doing it again or something. She was broody a few weeks ago but who knows because silkies go broody almost constantly during these warmer times.

One hen who wanders really far without flock - new behavior.

I have one silkie hen who wanders away from the flock recently. She doesn't appear to be sick nor isolating herself so I do not think the behavior is tied to that. It's a little concerning just because she seems less safe away from the flock as a tiny bantam that can get picked up by hawks and...

Respiratory issue in silkie (video included) - Stridor/minor blockage in nostril

Yes. Maybe just rolling and lots of dirt stuck in their hat or something, she has an especially big hat for a silkie and she rolls in dirt nearly daily. Most of the stuff in her nostrils appeared to just be dirt. Could be the facial structure too because that particular silkie has quite a large...

Respiratory issue in silkie (video included) - Stridor/minor blockage in nostril

I ended up brushing a damp soft toothbrush in her nostrils and some of the gunk came out, she seems fine today/nostrils look pretty clean! Thank you for the help!

Respiratory issue in silkie (video included) - Stridor/minor blockage in nostril

Looking for help identifying what's going on with my silkie. Symptoms Wheezing and sneezing with constant sound Some watery green poop a couple days ago that I assumed was from heat stress, I gave her electrolytes. Poop appears normal and healthy now. Mild mouth breathing Seems still energetic...

Finally cured my hen's pendulous crop, some tips

It took a couple months for me when I discovered the issue (because I tried a lot of different things to fix it,) but a couple weeks once I started doing frequent massages. You can try feeding her lots of oil too, coconut oil is good. It will hopefully dislodge whatever is causing the minor...

Finally cured my hen's pendulous crop, some tips

She hasn't had issues since! Still has a big crop but it drains properly now and her weight went back to normal. At the time I was treating her, I would feed her off-brand monistat once per day. Like an inch of it or so just to keep sour crop away because her crop was so full constantly.

    Bump on Eyelid

I would put terramycin on it, you can get it at tractor supply. Had a chick with infected crusty eyes once that swelled shut kinda like this and treatment with terramycin for a month finally solved it. You can be conservative with it because the tiny tubes of terramycin are kinda expensive.

Is my silkie going to lose her whole toe or just the tip (frostbite?)

Noticed that one of my silkies has frostbite today. Not totally sure how she got it but she is my smallest silkie so maybe she just couldn't handle the weather or her foot got wet somehow. I cleaned it up and have her inside now, her appetite is fine and she's still walking on it. Is she going...

Is this frostbite? Or just my chicken's skintone?

It has been around 10-20F for a few days. One of my silkies has white tips on two of her toes, although I can't tell if her toes just naturally have white tips (may also be possible.) Especially because the two tips are uniform on the two same toes. She is not limping nor acting like anything is...

What type of silkie/color is this?

Her feathers definitely grow differently than all my other silkies. Here's a picture of her next to a normal bearded silkie with straight feathers that lay flat. Her wing feathers flip out, as does every other feather. It's a little more obvious around the neck/shoulder or seeing her next to...

What type of silkie/color is this?

She came in a batch of normal bearded silkies, accidentally sold to me. Beautiful hen, not sure of her coloring or type. I've heard frizzle and sizzle, I think this is a sizzle? As you can see in the photos next to her flockmates, all her feathers stand up/flip out instead of laying flat. Also...
