New here! Some of my pigeons to show you all :)

Nice birds, all! Here is one of my Ukrainian skycutters in flight.

    So far, pretty good!

I'm sure the new mobile version is a little buggy but I think the few SNAFU's I've encountered have been my user errors. Just figuring things out. Thanks for the mobile version! I've been waiting a long time for it!

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

This is a winter project of mine that we had talked about earlier in this thread. I'm trying to make a house plant look like one of those jungle trees that I see pictures of that has roots growing right over the surface of rocks and down into the soil. I don't know what kind of plant. It's a...

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

My little project is progressing! I removed some soil today and I'm seeing the top of the rock. The actual stem of the plant is starting to float above the rock though. I might have to wire it down for a while? Roots are growing nice and deep but only on three sides of the rock. Maybe this will...

    What to do about hawks?

Maybe locking your birds up for one month would force the hawks and falcons to move on. Then start flying them again. At the first hawk attack, lock them up for a couple weeks.

    ASSISTANCE and ADVICE needed..

Mine love sunflower hearts. That's just the nut without the shell. Try holding some of the seeds in the palm of your hand before you feed the pigeons their regular feed. As soon as one pigeon gets brave enough to try it, they will all jump right in. Good luck!

    What to do about hawks?

You definitely have to figure out how the hawks are getting in and fix it. This is a bad time of year to fly your pigeons. Hawks are migrating and wintering in the warmer states. Most everyone locks their pigeons in this time of year. I had to lock mine up in October and won't be flying them...

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I think my "plant on a rock" is working! I see roots growin right along the rock where it touches the side of its clear container, about 3" below the surface. I cut an inch off of the container today. So far, so goofy! I mean good!

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Thanks! Much easier to take care of! And earlier there was talk of cheap building material... My favorite is free wooden pallets. They're a bear to dismantle if the have the twisty nails though. They don't last forever but I bet they'd last a couple years, even in contact with soil.

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

I believe it is campsis radicans (sp?). I'll be building a short stretch of privacy fence. It'll just hide my junk/treasure area at the back of the property. I think I'll plant some of them along tye fence. It sounds like the may require some pruning to keep them under control but I haven't...

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

No problem! Some seeds need a certain amount of time spent below freezing in order to germinate (I'm learning all kinds of stuff since moving to a cold climate lol). Not sure if these are like that but I put some in a spaghetti sauce jar and they'll spend the winter under my steps just in case...

Green thumb is itching, anyone else?

Oh, I didn't think of that! If the roots grow outward instead of downward, I'll have to replant it with plastic wrap holding the roots against the rock. If that happens ill look for ruins!! Great idea!
