If possible, keep them standing straight up instead of on their side during lockdown. It always helps when hatching Eggs with damaged air cells. You can use an egg carton and just stand the egg up in there.
I’ve had saddled air cell eggs hatch out but it depends on the severity of the saddle. The issue is the saddled cell will obstruct the natural position of the chick as it gets ready to hatch. The chick can easily be forced into a bad position and never be able to pip out.
Hatched April 1st from a brown coloured egg. It was almost all white but now it’s getting more and more brown feathers.
What breed and gender could it be?
The legs are not feathered. The white chick is significantly bigger and has thicker legs than the maran chicks. The breeder said the only other possibility is red sex link but I didn’t realize they laid dark brown eggs as well. All the eggs that hatched were basically the same colour.

What is the coldest weather you've had a hen successfully hatch and raise chicks outdoors? The temperature outside is currently in the 40s on average. Will my broody hen be able to hatch and raise her chicks in this temperature? Obviously they will be completely sheltered from the elements.
