So, this was interesting.
I cut open the sore and a hiss of air came out. Nothing else, no pus or any fluid.
I flushed with Bannx and betadine then packed it with TAO and bandaged it up.
Thanks for the quick reply!
I've dealt with bumblefoot before but it's always had an external scab to start the process from. I've got everything I need so I'll get to work on her this afternoon. Unless you have a better alternative I'll just use a sterile scalpel to open the top of the foot...
Sorry for the delay. I soaked her foot in epsom salts and cleaned her up. The bottom of the foot looks normal but the top is more swollen. There is a black area but it's under the skin, there's still no scab.
Completely unrelated but I just noticed I'm wearing Star Wars shirts in both pictures...
That was new last night. It looked like she might have been pecking at it. Some loose skin and a tiny bit of blood but no scab like I've seen on other hens with bumblefoot.
Is this bumble or something else? There's no scab and I'm leery of cutting it open and exposing her to the "elements." We've been watching this for a couple of weeks and it's not getting significantly better or worse. She walks, runs and bears weight on the affected foot but will sometimes hold...
Also want to note that we lost one of her sisters a little over a week ago. Similar symptoms to start and again we thought it was the heat. She passed while I was out of town and my wife found her so I didn’t see anything after the fact.
This hen was pretty lethargic the other day. We assumed it was the heat and she was a little better yesterday. Today she was worse and her comb was pale. I noticed she had some loose stool down her backside.
I brought her home and soaked her in some warm water. She let me flip her on her side...
@Eggcessive Thanks a ton for the video, it was very helpful. We were able to remove the pus from her eye. I swaddled her in a towel and told my wife "hold her beak and close your eyes" :)
I originally thought it was MG which is why I did the round of Tylan. I have not smelled them but I will tonight. I'm working on the pus, going to have to swaddle her tonight so she doesn't scratch up my wife like last time :)
I will say that the puffiness in the other birds has reduced since...
Back in August we had a bout of respiratory issues due to me being a new chicken tender and practicing poor biosecurity. We treated the flock (20 hens) with Tylan powder at 2000mg/gal sole drinking supply for 5 days and everything cleared up. About a week ago we had one hen start getting a...
