Is my mighty Cleopatra really a roo?

Meet Cleopatra, a 9-week old EE (possibly OE). She is now, at least, half-again the size of most of her broodermates. As her name suggests, she is the de facto ruler of her little kingdom. She is a she, right? Or am I just in denial? 😉

Cluck My Life - A Memoir

Repairing an old coop on my property to house my growing flock. It has been quite a challenge given that I have very few cordless tools and no spare money to buy any right now. Anywho, I’m about 75% complete with the repairs. Thought I’d share this TikTok I made yesterday. Feel free to come over...

Cluck My Life - A Memoir

My RIRs have been such reliable layers. Even through the winter they all continue to lay one large or XL egg per day. About 1-2 times a week, one them goes the extra mile and lays us one of these gargantuan double yolk monsters. They are so big they won’t fit in our cartons.

These are Olive Eggers. I have six of them, plus six Easter Eggers, and one Amaracauna in this batch of pullets. The OEs are by far the more friendly and inquisitive of the bunch.

New coop… but didn’t account for chicken math

For some reason my RIRs love water. They stand out in the rain and splash around in the puddles even though they have a covered area to retreat to if they wanted. That has been probably one the biggest surprises I’ve had so far.

New coop… but didn’t account for chicken math

Yep! I am in Alabama. (Just added that to my profile. Thanks for the suggestion!) I definitely think some more light and air would be good. My only concern with covering an entire wall would be rain. We get a lot of it and I don’t want it to rain in and make it soggy inside.

    Meyer Meal Maker… what breed?

My wife ordered me baby chicks from Meyer Hatchery and they sent me a bonus “meal maker” chick. It’s supposed to be a female layer. But being new to raising chickens I have no idea how to ID the breed. Anyone have a guess? Attaching a pic at one day old and another from today when she turned 3...

New coop… but didn’t account for chicken math

Built a coop last summer for my 7 RI Reds. At the time we lived in a house with a very small yard and close neighbors. So my coop was designed to fit under my deck stairs. We’ve since moved and I have a bunch of new chicks that will triple the size of my flock. So I’m going to retire the coop I...

The Witcher - The official BYC Fan Club

Ayeeeee! I’m a new fan of The Witcher! I’ve seen the show (which is how I became a fan) and then played through The Witcher 3 on PS a couple of times during lockdown last year. Have all the books on my shelf now but haven’t started reading them yet.

    Oh great, another nerd…

Here is a pic of my big girls right after they moved into their new coop. They were so excited they decided to go ahead and roost in the middle of the day 😂. Also attaching a couple of pics of my babies when they were just a day old and exploring the brooder. The chicks are 3 weeks old and soooo...
