Thank you. Des Moines, Iowa. Hot and humid in the summer, cold and windy in the winter. I am going to put some shims to the drawers to make a small poop deck and fill in the rest with bedding, and keep that smaller area where they roost. Worry about cold wet building up on that huge area. I need...
I could probably put a lip on. Maybe the best is to keep the drawers but section them off. Is it ok for the birds to lay in the PDZ? I have 3 chickens who don’t go up to roost and just lay on the floor.
What is PDZ? Unfortunately there is no lip on the drawer to really hold anything on. I guess a question I have is if it’s OK for the chickens to just have these trays to walk on,especially all winter. Or will they hold in cold and damp instead of absorbing.
My husband and I buil this 4x8 foot run for our first chicks in April 2020. Obviously tried to do our best, but ask 10 people and get 10 answers.
The ladies took to roosting in the front corner,so after learning about a ‘poop deck’ I thought it would work awesome and hired a guy to build me one...
Thank you for the reply and the link! I have been pondering on what else do put in there, there's a step stool and a crate, but those are all great ideas.
Inside the coop currently are roosting bars running on both ends, but I am having a roosting ladder with poop catcher built and should be...
I don’t have a photo of inside the nesting box on my phone and it was still dark when I left for work if that’s what you’re needing. Basically it’s 2 plastic tubs with a divider. I’ll take recommendations. And will block them off today!
I have 4 hens, approximately 18 weeks old, and 2 Brahma hens approx 13 weeks old. They have all been in the same coop/run for about a month, but the youngin's are still be picked on. If they leave the coop, one of the big girls will guard the ladder until just before the automatic door goes...
I have a somewhat similar situation. introduced 2 new Brahma that are about 7 weeks younger than my other girls. They've been in the coop for 3 weeks or so now, overall just the usual pecking order stuff, but at night my SL orpington guards the ramp so they can't get back in. I have so sit...
Thank you for this thread! I integrated 2 younger Brahma to my older flock about 3 weeks ago. Anymore the babies are mostly left alone (they are 11 wks now), still some chasing around the pen, but overall more calm. My big concern is at night, the dominant SL Orpington guards the ramp back...
I am very confused about sex of this chick. Approx 15-16 wks. First year newbie here. Has not roo’d. But has surpassingly thick legs. I do not have a pair to compare.
