How to make a compost pile

I made mine out of pallets. I just used wire to put it together. 7 pallets made 2 bins with a divider and 2 'doors" I can remove to get the compost out. One bin is for compost to age, the other is the one I add stuff to. works perfect

Raising cornish x meaties on concrete?

I went ahead and moved the kennel over there a minute ago on the slab. I think this will work out good. I can gather neighbors bags of leaves and spread them out every few days in the pen. Then add them to my compost bin

How hard is it to let your chickens out of their coop to be in yard?

I also was gun shy about letting mine out. I had been wanting to, just afraid they would never go back in the pen. One afternoon, with the help of several beers I opened the gate and pulled up a chair. I was amazed at how easy it was to get them back inside. I kicked myself over and over for...

How many inches of pine shaving

My coop is 4x8 floor space. I started off with 2 wal mart bales of shavings. It was pretty danged deep but you will lose some as you clean the coop.

    Deep litter method

I use a modified version of the DLM. I put a very heavy layer of pine shavings down. I found a wide kitty litter scoop that I duck taped to a telescopic handle (I duck taped a putty knife on other end for scraping poop off perches ) Every day I take a 5 gallon bucket and sift out the biggest...

Planting a vegetable garden, what will my chickens like??

Any type of lettuces, mustard greens, turnips, collards, cabbage. Lettuce is the easiest. Grows really quick so you can replant it as needed

    Chicken manure.

Go to a feed store and get a 55 gallon plastic barrel. They usually are from a restaurant and had peppers or pickles in them. The one by me, the barrels run about $15. Get a drill and drill bit, and go crazy with it drilling holes. Add all your chicken poop, any kitchen veggie scraps, coffee...

    White egg possible?????

I think you are right. Today, in the same nesting box(that this particular BR always lays in every day) I had a mini egg matching the color she always lays. Egg was 1/3 smaller, at least, than any of the other eggs and was the lighter shade my 2 BR's lay. I guess her body is going thru...
