I've been using the deep litter method since early last fall. But now that spring is full swing, the flies are seemingly out of control. I opened the coop to find a whole lot of them flying around the poop that has gathered from the last week. I mixed up the bedding, added some fresh stuff, but there has to be something else I can do.
I cleaned about 90% of the old bedding out a couple weeks ago, and added a bunch of new pine shavings. I also dusted the whole coop with sevin-5. I'm a little worried about maggots and what might go on in there if I can't control it better.
