    Frizzle losing feathers

This is our first frizzle named "Farty", so not sure how often they molt. We have 5 other chickens...all different breeds. Farty has been losing feathers on her back near her tail for a couple months now. Is this normal molting, or is there something else going on? She's still laying about 2-3...

    Rhode island red sexing

This is our first RIR, so it's a learning experience! She's definitely the rowdy one of the bunch!

    Rhode island red sexing

I could have sworn that I heard a very weak crow this morning. Which is why I'm questioning if it's actually a female. She is also very aggressive..even towards me and has bitten me a lot lately.

    Rhode island red sexing

We bought our first Rhode Island Red "Lucille Ball" back in Feb/March from a local feed store. She's now about 6-7 months old. Please tell me she's a pullet.

    Is this egg normal?

Our girls are 3 years old. Lately, one of the hens (that has also consistently been our best layer) has little to no white in her eggs. It's mostly just yolk. Is this normal for a 3yr old hen? Pretty much all of her eggs are like this for last month or so

Done molting but not laying again yet

Guess I'd better get ready to get some chicks this Spring then. Thank you so much for your input!

Done molting but not laying again yet

So they're basically just freeloaders during the winter? I don't remember them not laying last year

Done molting but not laying again yet

I've got 3 hens (araucana blends) that are about 2.5 years old. They just finished a pretty rough molting season (they looked so pitiful!). They're no longer molting, but only 1 started laying again. Well, now she hasn't laid in about 2 weeks. The others haven't started laying yet since they're...

Need a feeder that is rat and squirrel proof

HELP please!! We currently have 3 hens, and we've also got a massive rat, squirrel and chipmunk infestation on our property! We made some feeders out of PVC pipe that we open in the mornings and close back up in the evenings and have attached plastic Spikes around the edges of the feeder to...

Nothing left but a pile of feathers

Thank you for your help. I am keeping the 3 girls locked in the coop while I'm at work and letting them wall around the run when I am home. I'm putting up electric fence and will look into netting for the top. So far, only signs of the fox are footprints. He apparently comes to see them still...

Nothing left but a pile of feathers

Update: it was a fox. Saw it this morning. Had gotten another one. Got one of the EE pullets. I've put the remaining 3 pullets in the coop and shut the door while I'm at work today. What works best? Electric fence? Coyote pee? Shooting them?

Nothing left but a pile of feathers

I am so sad. My favorite hen Rosie (she's a cochin) is gone. I keep her and my 4 pullets (6 month old EE) in a run. There are plenty of places for them to hide, either in the coop or under the coop. There is a 4ft tall fence surrounding the run and coop. I checked on them yesterday morning and...

    Pullet laying under roosting bars

I did try that. And she still close to lay on another spot on the floor across the coop where there was no clutter or any obstacles to get past

    Pullet laying under roosting bars

Thank you! I may try that. I moved all the items I had under there blocking her when she was stubborn and still laid there, even though the eggs would legit roll off an upside down shovel and crack 🤦. I just moved everything and put more pine shavings down there and accepted that she will just...
