Good idea! I bought 3 guineas at the beginning of Spring. I kept them locked up for 2-3 months, but as soon as I let them out to free range, they disappeared. We are moving into our new home, and it will have 6' horse fence up around the entire property so hopefully that will keep them in and...
We have hardware cloth several feet up the run. We may need to put it up higher, though. Bull snakes are crazy-good diggers :( I wonder if a hot electric fence along the bottom would help?
Thank you for your input. If it is a snake that got her, I am guessing a bull snake. There are tons around here and they keep away the rattlesnakes. They get really big. The last one I saw was at least 5'. :( They can dig very deep and very well... not sure how to prevent them from getting...
My little flock of 9 went down to 8 yesterday :( I was so heartbroken. Something got into the chicken run and killed my only blue layer (one that took me forever to find). And yes, I cried like a baby.
Her body was completely intact, no marks anywhere, but her head was featherless and...
So.. I have been waiting ever so patiently and finally got one today! Between 18-19 weeks. I'm not sure who laid it, but I'm not complaining! I'm guessing maybe my vorweck? Its pretty small to be my orphington's, but she could be just getting started :)...
Out of the 9 in my signature, none have laid yet. They are about 18 weeks old. I'm not so patiently waiting. I really think it is this HOT NM heat! Last summer mine laid very early!
Could be.. but one of my "roosters" that grew a red comb started laying eggs! The comb later turned to grey :) However, one of my sweet "hens" started crowing. I never can tell with these guys!
He has not crowed yet. He is bigger than all the other chickens, and his color indicates that he is a boy :( Hens don't get the flashy bright colored tails.
I need to find a good home for my beautiful EE Roo. He is about 3 months old. He is super friendly and loves people. He is used to being handled. He is also very gentle, and gets along with all the other chickens- including several guineas that are only 1/4 his size in the run.
The...
Waaaaaaahhhhhhh. He is a boy for sure. He is getting a beautiful emerald green tail. Thankfully, he hasn't started crowing yet (watch him start in the morning). Hopefully I can find him a good PET home. Here is an updated picture of him...
Thanks, everyone. That is what I have been fearing for about a week. His bullying personality today (chest butting the others) also confirms it for me. *sigh*
I bought this "girl" about 6 weeks ago. She was in the pullet bin, but she is growing mighty fast compared to the others. She thankfully still looks somewhat round and not too lanky. I am questioning if she is truly a pullet. What do you guys think? Thanks for any responses...
